Cooper Flagg Passes Luka Dončić For Second‑Most 15‑5‑5 Games By A Teenager In NBA History

Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg continues to etch his name in the record book, even in losses amid a rebuilding season. The 19-year-old finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and a career-high-tying four blocks Saturday night in the Mavs’ 138-131 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. It marked his 24th game with at least 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Flagg surpassed Luka Dončić‘s count of 23 games with 15-5-5 for the second-most such performances by a teenager in NBA history. The only player ahead of him is LeBron James, who had 40 such games before his 20th birthday and also entered the league at 18.

Additionally, Flagg tied Jason Kidd for the second-most 15-10-5 games by a rookie in Mavericks franchise history, trailing only Dončić. Flagg’s three career games with at least 15 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists are more than any other rookie this season; Cedric Coward has two.

The performance also marked Flagg’s 11th double-double of the season, second among all rookies behind Maxime Raynaud‘s 15.

It was the kind of performance that has become familiar over the course of a rookie season, emblematic of the usual No. 1 pick experience. Learning tends to happen through a lot of losses at this stage for a prospect who was the first name called on the NBA Draft stage. The Mavericks are 23-48. Flagg has now lost more games this season than in the rest of his life combined. However, he has not let it show.

“I feel confident,” Flagg said after the game. “It’s just about getting to what I want to get to. Tonight obviously didn’t go in, but I felt really confident about the shot that I took. I know it’s a shot that I’m capable of making.”

Kidd, who serves as the Mavericks’ head coach, has watched Flagg’s maturation up close all season and is not surprised by the results.

“When you look at what he’s doing at 19, it’s incredible — not just top of his class, but one of the best players in the world,” Kidd said. “The future is extremely bright. We understand he’s 19, and it’s gonna take time, but he’s gonna work extremely hard at his craft. He loves the competition.”

Flagg and the Mavericks return to action Monday night at American Airlines Center against the Golden State Warriors. Tip-off is 8:30 p.m. CT.
