Dallas Mavericks Announce Re-Signing of Danté Exum, Waive Olivier-Maxence Prosper

The Dallas Mavericks announced Tuesday they have re-signed guard Danté Exum and requested waivers on forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper.

The move first appeared on the NBA’s official transaction log Saturday, finalizing days earlier. Exum’s contract is a one-year deal at the veteran’s minimum, carrying a $2.3 million cap hit, as DallasHoopsJournal.com previously reported.

Dallas also moved on from Prosper, requesting waivers on the second-year forward. The 6-foot-8 wing appeared in 92 games (five starts), averaging 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10.0 minutes. The move occurred on Friday, officially before the deadline to use the stretch provision.

Danté Exum’s Role for Dallas Mavericks

Exum, 30, has carved out a steady role since signing with Dallas in July 2023 after two seasons overseas. In 75 games (30 starts) with the Mavericks, he has posted career-best averages of 8.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists. His 47.2% shooting from 3-point range (76-of-161) is the highest in franchise history among players with at least 100 attempts.

Before arriving in Dallas, Exum played professionally for FC Barcelona and Partizan Belgrade. He averaged 13.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 38 games for Partizan in 2022-23, helping the club capture the Adriatic League championship.

His outlook this season features an important spot in the backcourt rotation alongside D’Angelo Russell, particularly as Kyrie Irving recovers from ACL surgery. Exum’s versatility as a secondary ball handler and perimeter shooter provides stability in a guard group that must adjust until Irving returns.

Kyrie Irving’s Recovery Progress

Irving was recently shown on video working out at the NBPA facility in New York, five months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee. The footage, posted by Overtime, displayed Irving moving comfortably on the court while working on floaters and finishes.

While no timetable has been attached to his return, DallasHoopsJournal.com has reported there is optimism about the possibility of a comeback before the All-Star break.
