Dallas Mavericks Face New Injury Updates For Ryan Nembhard And Brandon Williams Before Miami Heat Game

The Dallas Mavericks arrived in South Florida on Monday, hoping their crowded injury report might finally begin to ease. Instead, their morning shootaround reinforced a familiar theme of this opening month: progress on the margins, setbacks at the top, and a rotation that continues to shift daily as they try to reclaim balance.
Dallas has played 11 games in 18 days and has rarely fielded a healthy roster during that stretch. The team’s frontcourt remains thin, its guards are logging heavy minutes, and Jason Kidd’s staff has been forced to recalibrate roles almost every night. Monday offered both a glimmer of momentum and a reminder of how far the Mavericks still are from full strength.
Dallas Mavericks Guards Move in the Right Direction
The clearest positive development came from the backcourt.
Ryan Nembhard and Brandon Williams — both questionable to play against the Miami Heat — were active participants during shootaround. Williams, who has stepped into a starting role amid the team’s guard shortage, moved well on the floor despite dealing with low back tightness. His status has grown increasingly important for a team short on ball-handling, especially after he delivered 18 points, three rebounds and four assists in Saturday’s loss to Memphis.
Nembhard’s presence was equally encouraging. After missing recent games, he was upgraded to questionable over the weekend and looked comfortable on the floor Monday. If both are available, Dallas could field its most stable guard rotation in more than a week.
Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II Remain Sidelined
The encouraging signs in the backcourt stood in sharp contrast to the frontcourt.
Anthony Davis, who was listed as doubtful Sunday, did not travel with the team and was not present at shootaround. He has missed 13 straight games due to a left calf strain, and Monday’s absence all but rules out a surprise return in Miami.
Davis had shown incremental progress last week, but Dallas remains cautious with his reintegration after the setback he suffered in late October.
Dereck Lively II also did not appear on the floor Monday. His injury designation recently shifted from right knee injury management to right foot injury management — notable given his offseason cleanup procedure on that same foot.
The Mavericks will return briefly to Dallas between their stops in Miami and Los Angeles, leaving open the possibility Lively could rejoin the group later in the week, but his immediate availability remains unclear.
Dallas Mavericks Continue to Manage Heavy Workload
The Mavericks’ injury challenges come at a time when the league as a whole is dealing with an unusual wave of absences among star players.
Kidd, speaking over the weekend, pointed to the speed of today’s game and how modern training rhythms may not fully prepare players for the demands of the regular season.
“We need that energy, especially on back-to-backs,” Kidd said Saturday. “We tend to come out a little flat.”
For Dallas, the hope is that the reinforcements begin arriving soon. But as they open a two-game road swing against a surging Miami team, Monday’s shootaround made one thing clear: the Mavericks will again be leaning heavily on their available guards while awaiting clarity on their injured frontcourt.
Dallas and Miami tip off at 6:30 p.m. CST.
