Sources: Dallas Mavericks Not Among Bradley Beal Suitors Amid Buyout Talks

Bradley Beal is expected to reach a buyout agreement with the Phoenix Suns in the coming days, setting the stage for the three-time All-Star to become an unrestricted free agent. Multiple NBA contenders are already showing interest, but the Dallas Mavericks are not among them.
League sources tell DallasHoopsJournal.com that the Mavericks are not currently involved in discussions to pursue Beal, despite his expected availability and widespread speculation across the league. As first reported for RG, the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors are top teams to watch when Beal hits the open market.
Additional reporting from The Athletic and The Stein Line has confirmed interest from the Clippers, Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Financial and roster constraints are key factors in Dallas’ position. The Mavericks used the taxpayer mid-level exception to sign D’Angelo Russell to a two-year deal worth under $11.7 million and recently committed to bringing back Danté Exum on a one-year veteran’s minimum deal. Those moves have pushed the Mavericks to 16 standard contracts—one over the regular-season limit, making consolidation a more immediate need than adding another high-profile player.
Even if Dallas were to show interest in Beal, signing him would require clearing salary and roster space, likely at the expense of existing contributors. Given the competitive market around Beal, the Mavericks are not currently structured to make such a move.
Beal, 32, averaged 17.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 53 games for the Suns last season while shooting 49.7% from the field and 38.6% from deep. He has career averages of 21.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 801 games with Washington and Phoenix.
The Suns acquired Beal from the Wizards in 2023 in a blockbuster trade designed to create a title contender alongside Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. However, Phoenix failed to win a single playoff game during that stretch, getting swept by Minnesota in the 2024 first round and missing the postseason entirely in 2025.
While Beal’s next stop could significantly impact the title race, league sources indicate that Dallas will not be among the teams making a push.
