Dallas Wings rookie center Luisa Geiselsöder will miss the rest of the 2025 season with a shoulder injury, as DallasHoopsJournal.com reported. Geiselsöder was injured Aug. 27 against the Connecticut Sun and is expected to make a full recovery.
Geiselsöder appeared in 28 games, averaging 6.9 points and 4.8 rebounds. She led the Wings in rebounding six times and ranks fourth among WNBA rookies in rebounding and second in blocks (0.68). The 6-foot-4 center from Germany is also one of three rookies to rank in the top nine in steals, blocks, field goal percentage, and rebounds.
With Li Yueru sidelined for the rest of the season with an ACL sprain and given Geiselsöder’s absence, the Wings have been left with an especially undersized group with Myisha Hines-Allen starting at center. With most WNBA-quality bigs unavailable at this point in the season.
JJ Quinerly are both out for the year with ACL sprains. Tyasha Harris has been sidelined since undergoing left knee surgery. Arike Ogunbowale remains out indefinitely with right knee tendonitis, leaving her return timetable uncertain.
Roster Shuffles for Shorthanded Dallas Wings
To help fill the void, Dallas signed 6-3 forward Ajae Petty to a seven-day hardship contract. Petty, who signed a training camp deal with the Minnesota Lynx before being waived, played her final collegiate season at Ohio State in 2024-25.
She averaged 9.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 58.8 percent from the field. Over her career at LSU, Kentucky, and Ohio State, Petty totaled 975 points and 761 rebounds.
The Wings also signed guard Serena Sundell to a second seven-day hardship contract. Sundell, who joined Dallas on Aug. 26, will continue to provide backcourt depth.
Injury Updates and Guard Rotation
Rookie guard Aziaha James is expected to return from a right ankle injury this week, as DallasHoopsJournal.com reported. She has missed the last two games but is anticipated to be available when the Wings travel to face the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday and the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday.
With James progressing toward a return, guard Christyn Williams completed her extreme hardship contract Monday. As DallasHoopsJournal.com reported, the deal allowed Dallas to meet the league’s minimum requirement of eight available players. Per sources, Williams is a candidate to rejoin the team on a new contract before the season ends.
James’ progression helps relieve the Wings amid a slew of guard injuries, including JJ Quinerly‘s out for the season due to a sprained ACL. Arike Ogunbowale remains out without a timetable for a return due to right knee tendonitis.
The Wings face the Valkyries on Thursday at 9 p.m. CT at Chase Center.
