Dallas Wings’ Maddy Siegrist Diagnosed With Tibial Plateau Fracture in Right Knee

Dallas Wings forward Maddy Siegrist has been diagnosed with an anterolateral tibial plateau fracture in her right knee, the team announced Monday. The injury occurred during the June 11 game against the Phoenix Mercury and will sideline the third-year forward for an extended period.

The 6-foot-2 forward underwent testing after the team’s trip to Las Vegas last week, where she was ruled out shortly before Friday’s 88-84 loss to the Aces. Siegrist did not participate in Sunday’s practice at College Park Center and was seen on the sideline wearing a large brace on her right leg.

The Wings confirmed that the injury does not require surgery and that Siegrist is expected to make a full recovery and return later this season. Her long-term timeline remains undetermined.

Siegrist had appeared in all 11 games for Dallas this season prior to the injury, averaging 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in 24.0 minutes per game. She played 15 minutes in Phoenix before exiting the contest, finishing with three points and three rebounds. She did not wear a visible brace or sleeve in that game.

Siegrist was a full participant in practice last Thursday in Las Vegas and took part in Friday morning’s shootaround, wearing a black sleeve on her right leg. She stayed afterward to get extra shots up, but was downgraded to out later in the day.

A sports performance expert who spoke to DallasHoopsJournal.com said that the presence of a large brace typically signals a more serious injury involving joint instability or load management. “Generally, when someone’s wearing that, they’re really guarding or unloading the area,” the expert said.

Siegrist’s absence adds to a depleted Dallas frontcourt already missing Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiselsöder, both of whom departed to compete in FIBA Women’s EuroBasket. McCowan is representing Turkey, while Geiselsöder recently joined Germany’s roster after a breakout 13-point performance against the Aces.

With Tyasha Harris out for the season following knee surgery, the Wings are eligible to apply for a hardship exemption. Only eight players were available for Friday’s Commissioner’s Cup game, where Dallas led by 11 with under four minutes left before Las Vegas closed on a 17-2 run.

Arike Ogunbowale led the Wings with 26 points and eight assists in that game. She did not practice on Sunday due to illness but did fully participate on Monday.

The Wings (1-11) will host the Golden State Valkyries on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT at College Park Center.
