Dallas Wings Downgrade Myisha Hines-Allen to Out vs. New York Liberty; Diamond Miller, Maddy Siegrist to Play

The Dallas Wings will be without Myisha Hines-Allen for Tuesday’s matchup against the New York Liberty, as the veteran forward was officially downgraded to out with a left ankle injury. Hines-Allen sustained the injury during Friday’s loss to Indiana and has not practiced since, though she was present at Tuesday’s shootaround, observing from the sideline while wearing a protective boot.
Her absence leaves a significant void in Dallas’ frontcourt, as Hines-Allen has averaged 6.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists over 26 games this season, often serving as a secondary playmaker and a key rebounder in the team’s rotation.
To bolster their depth, the Wings also re-signed guard Grace Berger to a third seven-day contract. Berger has appeared in seven games this season, averaging 3.1 points and 1.6 assists in 9.4 minutes per contest. Over her career (51 games), she has averaged 3.6 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 13.4 minutes per game while shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three-point range.
Maddy Siegrist’s Return Brings Needed Physicality on the Glass
After missing 18 games with a right knee injury, Maddy Siegrist is set to return on a minutes restriction. Her rebounding ability, particularly on the offensive end, will be critical in addressing the Wings’ second-chance scoring opportunities in Hines-Allen’s absence.
“We have to compete on every possession,” Siegrist told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “New York is such a great team, and they can hurt you in so many different ways. We’ve got to try to be the aggressor.”
Siegrist has averaged 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds over 11 games this season, playing 24.0 minutes per contest. For her career (77 games), she holds averages of 6.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in 15.9 minutes per game while shooting 48.9 percent from the field.
“Sometimes injuries happen — things you can’t control,” Siegrist said. “But with the group we have, we’re a really young, fiery group with a mix of experience and some great leaders. You put that together, and you just have to compete for the next 15 games and see what happens.”
Diamond Miller Poised for Larger Role in Debut
Diamond Miller will also step into a larger role in her Wings debut, following her trade from the Minnesota Lynx last week. With Hines-Allen sidelined and the rotation in flux, Miller’s versatility on both ends of the floor will be pivotal.
“I’ve always felt like I’m an all-around player, so just really expanding my game in areas where I get to show it a little bit more,” Miller said. “It’s just creating an identity for myself here and making an impact on the team.”
Miller has averaged 4.1 points, 0.9 rebounds, and 0.6 assists in 9.7 minutes per game across 25 appearances this season, while shooting 47.6 percent from the field and an efficient 53.8 percent from three. Over her career (78 games), she’s averaged 7.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 16.5 minutes per game.
Head coach Chris Koclanes envisions Miller’s downhill attacking style and defensive versatility as vital to Dallas’ system.
“She plays downhill, puts pressure on the rim and the paint,” Koclanes said. “If we can create the right space, she’ll find opportunities to attack closeouts and get to the rim.”
Miller also emphasized the importance of confidence in taking perimeter shots when defenses sag off.
“I just feel like if the opportunity’s there, shoot it and be confident,” Miller said. “People are leaving me open.”
As Dallas navigates through lineup adjustments, Miller believes the collective hunger of the group will drive their success.
“I think most of us came from places where we’ve felt undervalued, so now it’s time where we can expand our games,” she said. “That’s exciting.”
Tipoff between the Wings and Liberty is set for 6 p.m. CT at Barclays Center.
