Indiana Fever Injury Report

Indiana Fever Adjusts Without True Point Guards

The Fever’s backcourt rotation has been decimated by injuries, losing McDonald and Colson to season-ending injuries last week, while Clark remains sidelined. Against Chicago, Kelsey Mitchell shifted to point guard and thrived, scoring a game-high 26 points with a season-high eight assists and just one turnover.

Indiana signed 12-year veteran Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract to help stabilize the guard position until Clark returns. Sims, a former All-Star, has career totals of over 3,000 points and 1,000 assists.

“It’s not my first time coming to a new team,” Sims said. “The biggest thing is just doing what I do best — playing defense, playing hard, doing whatever the team needs. Obviously, I know they’ve been down with injuries — prayers up for Syd and Aari, love them both. Like I said, I’m excited to be here. I’m not gonna do too much, but whatever coach tells me to do, I’m gonna do it, have fun, and enjoy my teammates.”

Paige Bueckers’ Rookie Streak

Bueckers has scored in double figures in all 25 games she has played this season, averaging 18.5 points and 5.3 assists. In August, she’s averaging 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 52.6% shooting while managing a lingering back injury.

“It’s annoying at times because it’s always there, it’s constant,” Bueckers said. “But like I’ve said, I rest, recover, and get my body ready to go. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug — once the game starts, it kind of goes away, and then you feel it the day after. It’s just something you deal with.”

Dallas Wings Seeking to Turn Words into Wins

The Wings enter Tuesday having lost five straight, seven of their last eight, and 11 of their last 13 games. Despite competitive stretches, they have struggled to sustain energy and execution for full games, often seeing strong first halves undone by third-quarter lapses.

Paige Bueckers, who has emerged as the team’s primary voice alongside her on-court production, has made it clear that postgame conversations are no longer enough.

“There’s only so much we can talk about,” Bueckers said after Sunday’s loss to Washington. “We’ve had these conversations after almost every game, so right now it’s all about action. I think I can be better at setting that tone.”

Head coach Chris Koclanes echoed that sentiment, stressing the need to maintain defensive intensity regardless of offensive rhythm. “We’ve got to find ways… First off, we need to get more stops. Period. Even when the ball goes through the hoop, we need to still find ways to generate the same type of pace and tempo and keep the ball moving from side to side,” he said.

With a month left in the regular season, both Bueckers and Koclanes have emphasized the importance of translating their words into results to close out the year.

Grace Berger’s First Start

Grace Berger made her first career start on Sunday, helping initiate early ball movement despite going scoreless. This performance was coming off her recording six points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals in a season-high 30 minutes against the New York Liberty — her second straight game setting a season-high in minutes.

“She’s perfect in her role,” Bueckers said. “She knows what she’s good at and what she’s capable of — getting the offense organized, pushing the tempo, being aggressive on both sides of the floor. She doesn’t try to do too much and plays within herself.”

Last Meeting – August 1: Fever 88, Wings 78

The Wings battled until the final minutes in front of 17,857 fans — the second-largest regular-season home crowd in franchise history — but Indiana’s rebounding (+14 margin) and three-point shooting proved decisive.

Bueckers scored 22 points, tying Odyssey Sims for the second-most 20-point games by a rookie in franchise history (12). Myisha Hines-Allen and James each added nine off the bench.

Indiana’s second-quarter 14-6 run, sparked by Chloe Bibby, flipped momentum, and Kelsey Mitchell’s third-quarter scoring push kept Dallas at bay. The Wings closed within six in the fourth before back-to-back Aari McDonald threes restored the Fever’s cushion.

“It was definitely a physical game,” Bueckers said. “I thought we only matched that starting in the fourth quarter. We need to match that in all four quarters moving forward.”

Koclanes credited Indiana’s toughness and rebounding but stressed the need for Dallas to bring consistent energy from the opening tip: “That game was all about toughness and physicality. When you’re missing shots, you have to play even harder on defense to give yourself a chance.”
