Golden State Warriors star Jimmy Butler suffered a torn right ACL on Monday (1/19) against the Miami Heat and will miss the rest of the 2025-26 NBA season, according to Anthony Slater of ESPN.

Butler’s agent, Bernie Lee, believes his client will bounce back from this devastating injury.

“Obviously a gut punch on every level for Jimmy and the entire group, but I firmly believe that this is a part of the journey,” Lee told ESPN in a statement. “We can’t only expect to take the good things out of it. I’ve known for over 10 years now that Jimmy is going to win a championship before he is done. My belief in that is unwavering. If you know anything about Jimmy, you know exactly how he will attack this challenge. Put simply, he has this.”

The Warriors acquired Butler from the Heat last season and signed the All-Star to a two-year, $111 million extension. Butler is making $54.1 million this season. He will make $56.8 million next season in the final year of his contract.

Golden State lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the 2025 playoffs in five games. Stephen Curry got hurt in Game 1 and missed the rest of the series.

The Warriors are currently in eighth place in the Western Conference standings. If the regular season ended today, Curry and Co. would be in the NBA play-in tournament.

Butler will finish this season averaging 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. The 36-year-old has played for the Chicago Bulls, Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, Heat and Warriors. He holds career averages of 18.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.

Jonathan Kuminga has demanded a trade from the Warriors, but with Butler done for the season, Steve Kerr may play Kuminga again

The 2026 NBA trade deadline is February 5 at 3 p.m. ET.
