NBA Insider Doesn’t Expect Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks To Trade For Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant
NBA insider Tim Bontemps of ESPN doesn’t expect the Miami Heat or Milwaukee Bucks to trade for Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant
Morant is making $39.4 million this season. The two-time All-Star and the Grizzlies have mutual interest in parting ways, sources told DallasHoopsJournal, and the Heat and Bucks have been linked to Morant.
However, Botemps doesn’t believe Morant will land in Miami or Milwaukee.
“As I have said in the past in the wake of the Luka trade, I’ve stopped saying never about things, but I feel confident that Ja Morant will not be a Heat and will not be a Buck,” Bontemps said. “That’s what I would say. I don’t believe he’s going to Miami and I don’t believe he’s going to Milwaukee.”
The Heat don’t want to make any big trades until they know for certain that Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo will remain in Milwaukee. Miami is often mentioned as a place Antetokounmpo would be amenable to landing, according to NBA insider Sam Amick of The Athletic.
Memphis is entertaining offers to trade Morant, who doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract. Multiple teams are pursuing Morant in trade talks and rival executives believe the Grizzlies are prioritizing draft picks and young players in return.
Morant has appeared in 19 games this season. He’s averaging 19.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game while shooting 40.7% from the field, 23.5% from beyond the arc and 89.0% from the free-throw line.
The 2019-20 Rookie of the Year, Morant has only led the Grizzlies to the second round of the playoffs once.
Morant, 26, has career averages of 22.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game. He was the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Murray State.
The 2026 NBA trade deadline is next month. It will be fascinating to see if Morant gets traded by the Grizzlies.
