Golden State Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga Doesn’t Want To Be Traded Mid-Season

Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga doesn’t want to be traded mid-season, according to NBA insider Anthony Slater of ESPN.

Kuminga signed a two-year, $48.5 million deal with the Warriors to end his restricted free agency. The second year of the deal, which is a team option, is designed for Golden State — or another team if and when Kuminga is traded — to rip up and construct a new contract next offseason.

The Warriors can trade Kuminga after January 15.

“I have been hearing he does not want to be traded mid-season,” Slater said. “Which is understandable. I think he wanted the new destination, but wanted the new destination fresh with a training camp and all that because no player really likes to be traded mid-season.”

Kuminga doesn’t have a good relationship with Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, sources told DallasHoopsJournal. The swingman wanted to leave Golden State this offseason and play for the Sacramento Kings.

Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks for the Warriors last season in 47 games. He was the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Golden State beat the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in seven games but lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round in five games. Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.5 blocks in the 2025 playoffs.

Kerr was forced to play Kuminga in the Rockets series because Jimmy Butler missed Game 3 with an injury. Kuminga only played in the Timberwolves series because Stephen Curry got injured in Game 1 and missed Games 2, 3, 4 and 5.

The Warriors offered Kuminga a three-year, $75.2 million contract with a team option in the third season three weeks ago. Kuminga declined the offer because he wanted a player option over a team option.

Kuminga’s agent, Aaron Turner, presented a three-year, $82 million offer — including a player option in Year 3 — to the Warriors. The front office, led by general manager Mike Dunleavy, rejected it.
