Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham Will Miss Remainder of 2025 WNBA Season

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season.
Cunningham suffered a right knee injury against the Connecticut Sun on August 17.
In a corresponding move, the Fever have signed guard Shey Peddy to a seven-day hardship contract and released guard Kyra Lambert.
Cunningham was traded to the Fever in February by the Phoenix Mercury. She will finish this season with averages of 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 30 games.
The 29-year-old Cunningham shot 46.9% from the field, 43.2% from 3 and 87.5% from the free-throw line for the Fever this season. She’s seventh on the team in points per game.
The Fever, who are still without two-time All-Star Caitlin Clark, are 19-16 on the season. Indiana hopes Clark returns before the end of the regular season.
Clark has been out since July 15 due to a right groin injury. She’s only played in 13 games this season for the Fever.
The 2024 Rookie of the Year, Clark was a guest on WNBA legend Sue Bird‘s podcast and she talked about being injured this season.
“It’s just been so challenging. Like being active and playing four games and then not and like not feeling the best and then frustrated of like how hard I worked in the offseason. And then like all I do is rehab and like continue to do this process and just like trying to trust that the best I can,” Clark said. “And obviously there’s really frustrating days and there’s days where like it’s a little bit easier and like you’re very, very motivated and like you’re right close to the finish line of getting back and being back.
“And then like it’s not like I have a training camp to like build up to like playing my first game again. It’s like no, like you’re tossed into game 30. Like go try to play well. Like it’s hard.”
The Fever have nine games left in the regular season.
