Jaren Jackson Jr. ‘Doesn’t Necessarily Want’ To Get Traded By Memphis Grizzlies

Jaren Jackson Jr. “doesn’t necessarily want” to get traded by the Memphis Grizzlies, according to NBA reporter Tim MacMahon of ESPN.
Jackson Jr. “wants to understand” what the Grizzlies’ plan is moving forward.
“I poked around a little bit about the Jaren Jackson Jr. situation and my understanding is he doesn’t necessarily want out,” MacMahon said. “Like there have been people around the league who have suggested that’s the case. I’m told that’s not necessarily true. He just wants to understand what the plan is.”
Jackson Jr. is making $35 million this season. The Grizzlies could trade Ja Morant soon, which could open the floodgates for a potential Jackson Jr. trade.
JJJ is averaging 18.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game this season while shooting 48.1% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc and 76.9% from the free-throw line. He’s considered one of the best centers in the NBA.
A two-time All-Star, Jackson Jr. has career averages of 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. He won the 2022-23 Defensive Player of the Year Award.
The Grizzlies are in 10th place in the rugged Western Conference standings. They have won only one playoff series in the Morant-Jackson Jr. era.
It might be time for Memphis to enter a major rebuild by trading Jackson Jr. and Morant since the franchise isn’t close to competing for a title.
The 2026 NBA trade deadline is next month. It will be fascinating to see what the Grizzlies do with Morant and Jackson Jr.
The Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons are interested in trading for Jackson Jr., according to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. JJJ doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.
“Amid Ja Morant trade talks, Jaren Jackson Jr. remains a player the Memphis Grizzlies want to build with, according to an ESPN report,” Scotto wrote. “However, that stance hasn’t stopped various teams across the league from registering interest in Jackson Jr, including the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics, league sources told HoopsHype.”
