Klay Thompson Ruled Out For Dallas Mavericks At Milwaukee Bucks Due To Rest

DHJ Quick Take

  • Thompson Ruled Out: Klay Thompson has been officially ruled out for Tuesday’s road game against the Milwaukee Bucks due to rest, an upgrade from his earlier doubtful designation.
  • Seven Players Out: Dallas will be without seven rotation players in Milwaukee, marking their most depleted roster of the season on the second night of a back-to-back.
  • Bench Opportunity: With Thompson officially out, John Poulakidas, Tyler Smith, and AJ Johnson are logical candidates to see expanded roles off the bench at Fiserv Forum.

MILWAUKEE— The Dallas Mavericks ruled out Klay Thompson for Tuesday night’s matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks at Fiserv Forum. Thompson, who had been listed as doubtful earlier in the day due to rest, will not play on the second night of a back-to-back.

Thompson is averaging 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 65 appearances this season. Losing Thompson makes it even more challenging for the Mavericks offensively after already being set to play without P.J. Washington, Naji Marshall, Marvin Bagley III, Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively II, and Caleb Martin.

Possible Dallas Mavericks Rotation Options

The Mavericks’ 124-94 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves featured a starting lineup of Khris Middleton, Daniel Gafford, Cooper Flagg, Max Christie, and Ryan Nembhard.

Off the bench, John Poulakidas, Tyler Smith, and AJ Johnson could be names the Mavericks lean on to absorb additional minutes. Brandon Williams and Dwight Powell round out the available rotation.

Gafford thrived in his return from a two-game injury absence in Monday’s 124-94 loss to Minnesota. He racked up 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting and 8 rebounds after previously dealing with a right shoulder sprain.

Flagg struggled against the Timberwolves’ physicality, shooting 5-of-19 for 12 points, but he enters Tuesday averaging 22.5 points over his last nine games with a Rookie of the Year case that six remaining regular-season games will help determine.
