Luka Dončić Inquired With Los Angeles Lakers To See If They Can Acquire Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo

NBA superstar Luka Dončić inquired with the Los Angeles Lakers to see if they can acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Fox Chicago’s Lou Canellis.
Antetokounmpo wanted to get traded from the Bucks in the offseason and his first choice was the New York Knicks.
“I can tell you this for a fact,” Canellis said. “A few months ago, Giannis wanted to be traded. His first choice, New York with the Knicks. Knicks wouldn’t move off, would not offer more than just Karl-Anthony Towns and it just wasn’t going to work with the Milwaukee Bucks if they’re going to give up Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“I can tell you that the Lakers inquired and Luka Dončić himself inquired, trying to see if the Lakers could work out a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks. Now remember, Giannis wants to leave because he wants to win.”
The Lakers are known for making blockbuster trades. They acquired Kareem Abdul-Jabbar from the Bucks, Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic, Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans and Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks.
Los Angeles would likely have to part ways with all of its future draft picks, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura to acquire Antetokounmpo. The Greek Freak doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.
The Lakers are currently in second place in the West. They are 15-5.
Meanwhile, the Bucks are 10-13. They are in 10th place in the East.
Antetokounmpo and his agent are having conversations with the Bucks about the power forward’s future, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN. The two-time MVP is making $54.1 million this season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.
Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee to the 2021 championship against the Phoenix Suns. Since then, the Bucks have won only one playoff series.
The Lakers won the title in 2020 behind Davis and LeBron James. They haven’t been back to the NBA Finals since.
