An NBA trade idea where the Detroit Pistons send three players and two draft picks to the Utah Jazz for Lauri Markkanen has been created.

NBA writer Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Pistons and Jazz:

Detroit Pistons get: Lauri Markkanen

Utah Jazz get: Tobias Harris, Jaden Ivey, Bobi Klintman, a 2030 first-round pick and a top-five protected 2032 first-round pick

This blockbuster NBA trade idea would pair Markkanen with Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson.

“The Finn’s ability to dominate as either a catch-and-shoot three-point threat or an above-the-rim cutter, and his willingness to do it without dominating the ball or over-dribbling, would be put to good use by Cade Cunningham,” Bailey wrote. “Those two, along with Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson, would give the Detroit Pistons a team that could win the East as early as this season.”

Markkanen is one of the best players in the NBA. He averaged 19.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.4 blocks for the Jazz last season in 47 games while shooting 42.3% from the field, 34.6% from beyond the arc and 87.6% from the free-throw line.

A one-time All-Star, Markkanen has played for the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers and Jazz, compiling averages of 18.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.5 blocks. The big man doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.

Markkanen, 28, will make $46.4 million this season.

The Jazz had the worst record in the NBA last season, while the Pistons lost to the New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs in six games.

Utah is still in rebuild mode, so Markkanen is better suited to play for another franchise. He projects to be a good fit in Detroit since he’s a three-level scorer who can also protect the rim and rebound.
