An NBA trade idea sending Dillon Brooks from the Phoenix Suns to the Los Angeles Lakers has been created.

NBA writer Jacob Rude of SB Nation’s Silver Screen and Roll created the following trade idea between the Suns and Lakers:

Phoenix Suns get: Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber

Los Angeles Lakers get: Dillon Brooks

Lakers fans hate Brooks, who called LeBron James “old” during the 2023 playoffs. James and Co. beat Brooks and the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the 2023 postseason in six games.

Brooks joined the Rockets in the summer of 2023 via a sign-and-trade deal with the Grizzlies. He got booed every time he touched the ball at Crypto.com Arena in 2023-24 and 2024-25.

The Rockets traded Brooks to the Suns this offseason in the blockbuster Kevin Durant trade. Phoenix appears to be rebuilding again, so it may not make sense for Brooks to stay in the desert.

James has played with Rajon Rondo and Lance Stephenson, two guys he used to have beef with. While it would certainly be awkward to see James and Brooks play together, the Lakers do need more wing defenders and Brooks fits that bill.

For the Rockets last season, Brooks averaged 14.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks while shooting 42.9% from the field, 39.7% from beyond the arc and 81.8% from the free-throw line. The 29-year-old will make $21.1 million next season.

The Lakers, who lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in five games, are expected to start Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, James and Deandre Ayton next season. Brooks could come off the bench with Marcus Smart, Jake LaRavia and Jaxson Hayes.

Brooks has career averages of 14.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.3 blocks with the Grizzlies and Rockets. He’s one of the biggest agitators in the NBA and the Lakers could use someone like that.
