According to NBA reporter Tim Cato of DLLS, former Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison had a document where he placed Jrue Holiday on the same tier as Nikola Jokić.

The Mavericks fired Harrison on Tuesday. Harrison, of course, traded Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers last season for Anthony Davis and Max Christie.

“One team source recalls a document where Harrison placed Jrue Holiday within the same tier of talent as Nikola Jokić,” Cato wrote. “While at Nike, Harrison’s role involved talent evaluation. But from the very first moment he was hired, several league sources say, there were questions whether those evaluations would translate to coherent team building.

“There had always been signs that Harrison was underwater in his front office role. In the first years, front office executives around the league found it curious how difficult it was to reach him on the phone, league sources said, until more of those responsibilities were shifted to assistant general manager Matt Riccardi.”

The Mavericks have appointed Michael Finley and Riccardi as co-interim general managers to oversee basketball operations. A comprehensive search will begin for a permanent replacement.

Dallas is 3-8 on the season. Meanwhile, Dončić is averaging 37.1 points per game for the Lakers, who are 8-3.

Davis has played in only 14 games with the Mavericks, who missed the playoffs last season after reaching the NBA Finals in 2024 with Dončić and Kyrie Irving leading the way.

Currently out with a left calf strain, Davis reported to training camp at 268 pounds, according to the roster the Mavericks released in September. That was 15 pounds heavier than what he was listed at the previous season with the Lakers.

Now that Harrison is gone, many people around the NBA believe the Mavericks will trade Davis, who is making $54.1 million this season.
