According to NBA insider Chris Mannix of SI, radical roster changes have already been discussed by the Dallas Mavericks’ new brain trust.

The Mavericks fired Nico Harrison as general manager on Tuesday. Mark Cuban will have a major voice again in the franchise.

Dallas has appointed Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi as co-interim general managers to oversee basketball operations. A comprehensive search for a permanent replacement has already begun.

“As for what’s next, I’m told that Mark Cuban, the Mavs’ minority owner who was exiled from basketball operations by Harrison, is back at the table,” Mannix wrote. “I’m also told that radical roster changes have already been discussed by Dallas’s new brain trust. Big changes could be coming to Big D.”

The Mavericks are 3-9 on the season. They are in 14th place in the Western Conference standings.

Anthony Davis has played in only five games, while Kyrie Irving is still recovering from his ACL surgery.

Most people in the NBA believe Dallas will trade Davis and Klay Thompson before the February trade deadline. Irving likely doesn’t have much trade value at the moment since he’s injured, but the Mavericks could trade him as well if a team offers them expiring contracts and draft picks.

Davis is the main trade candidate. The big man is making $54.1 million this season. He will make $58.5 million next season and has a player option for the 2027-28 season worth $62.8 million.

A future Hall of Famer, Davis reported to training camp at 268 pounds, according to the roster the Mavericks released in September. That was 15 pounds heavier than what he was listed at the previous season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Davis is averaging 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per game this season while shooting 52.0% from the field, 27.3% from beyond the arc and 74.2% from the free-throw line. He turns 33 in March.
