San Antonio Spurs Saving Trade Assets to Pursue Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo

According to NBA insider Sam Amico of HoopsWire, the San Antonio Spurs are saving their trade assets to pursue Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
If Antetokounmpo requests a trade from the Bucks, the Spurs will aggressively try to acquire the future Hall of Famer.
Kevin Durant wanted to get traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Spurs, but San Antonio “wasn’t that interested” in Durant, per Amico.
NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN said on the Stephen A. Smith Show in June that Antetokounmpo remains open-minded about leaving the Bucks, who have won just one playoff series since winning the 2021 title against the Suns.
“Giannis Antetokounmpo is open-minded and considering other options outside of Milwaukee,” Charania said on the Stephen A. Smith Show. “He has not requested a trade yet, but he remains open-minded, from my understanding.
“One thing about Giannis is that he always plays things close to the vest. The moment he feels like in Milwaukee they’re not competing for a championship, he’s going to look around. He has said that on the record.”
The Spurs haven’t made the playoffs since 2019, but they have an incredibly bright future with Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper leading the way.
If San Antonio figures out a way to land Antetokounmpo, the franchise could be the next dynasty in the NBA.
Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP, a one-time Finals MVP, a one-time Defensive Player of the Year and a nine-time All-Star. He is one of three players all-time to win MVP and DPOY in the same season. Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon are the other two.
Antetokounmpo will make $54.1 million next season. He signed a three-year, $175 million extension with the Bucks in October 2023.
Dan Favale of Bleacher Report came up with a trade idea that would send Antetokounmpo from the Bucks to the Spurs. The trade idea involves Harper, the second pick in this year’s draft.
San Antonio Spurs Receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo
Milwaukee Bucks Receive: Harrison Barnes, Dylan Harper, Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, 2027 first-round pick (via ATL), 2029 first-round pick, Sacramento’s 2030 second-round pick, 2031 first-round pick (most favorable of SAS or SAC), Sacramento’s 2031 second-round pick
The Bucks will not trade Antetokounmpo unless he requests a trade. The Spurs are patiently waiting for that day to happen so they can strike.
