Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers dribbles the ball up the floor while surveying the defense during a 5-on-5 scrimmage at College Park Center.
Paige Bueckers (5) surveys the floor during the first 5-on-5 session of Dallas Wings training camp. Bueckers, who averaged 19.2 points and 5.4 assists in 2025, has been the primary focus of Jose Fernandez's offensive installation, emphasizing a faster pace and more pick-and-roll variety. Her chemistry with No. 1 pick Azzi Fudd was immediately apparent during live reps. (Photo by Rashad Miller/DallasHoopsJournal.com)

DHJ Quick Take: The Scrimmage Tape

  • The UConn Short-Cut: The curl-and-knockdown between Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd shows the value of a tactical advantage. Jose Fernandez is installing a “totally different language” at camp, but the Bueckers-Fudd connection allows Dallas to skip the “learning curve” phase.
  • The Defensive Standard: After Fernandez preached that “body language never whispers” on Day 2, Maddy Siegrist exemplified that with elite on-ball activity.
  • The Veteran “Connector” Role: Seeing Alysha Clark and Li Yueru execute high-IQ reads provided examples of the Wings’ collective unselfishness.

ARLINGTON, Texas — First 5-on-5 of the week for the Dallas Wings on Day 3. Defense led the day at College Park Center after two mostly-offensive practices to open camp.

Azzi Fudd curled off a screen, caught a pass from Paige Bueckers right in her shooting pocket, and knocked down a three. Looked like they’d never stopped playing together.

Alysha Clark made a weak-side read on a patient Bueckers catch-and-shoot three. Li Yueru and Maddy Siegrist connected on a backdoor cut after an offensive rebound. The veterans knew where to be.

Siegrist also stood out defensively. Active hands, ball pressure, physical off the ball.

Wings are off on Wednesday. Back Thursday for Day 5. Preseason opens April 30 at Indiana. Regular season starts May 9, same building.
