‘Maddy’s a Bucket’: Maddy Siegrist Emerging as Key Scorer for Dallas Wings, Posts Career Night Against Las Vegas Aces

The Dallas Wings were buried under a record-setting three-point barrage Sunday in Las Vegas, but Maddy Siegrist offered the silver lining. While the Aces splashed 18 threes in a 106–87 rout, Siegrist carved out her best performance yet — a career-high 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting with six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
It marked her second 20-point outing within a week, surpassing the 22 she posted on Tuesday against the Indiana Fever, and underscored her growing role as a scoring option for a team still searching for consistency, especially amid the injury absence of star guard Arike Ogunbowale.
Maddy Siegrist is Establishing Rhythm After Injury
The performance was another step forward in Siegrist’s recovery from a right knee injury that cost her 18 games midseason. In 17 appearances this year, she has averaged 11.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 0.6 assists. But since returning to the lineup, she’s taken her production to another level, averaging 16.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assists over her last six games.
For Siegrist, the numbers have come not from hunting shots but from leaning into her efficiency inside the arc, where her footwork and touch in the mid-post have become increasingly reliable.
“It’s hard to reflect on when you’re losing, so it doesn’t feel that good,” Siegrist told DallasHoopsJournal.com afterward. “I’m just trying to do everything I can to help my teammates. They work really hard to get me open and get me the ball, so I try to reward them. But it doesn’t feel that good today.”
Teammates Praise Maddy Siegrist’s Versatility
While Siegrist downplayed her production, her teammates did not. In the locker room, her impact was one of the first things mentioned. For a Dallas team still developing an identity, her emergence as a go-to option has been hard to ignore.
“Maddy’s a bucket,” Haley Jones said to DallasHoopsJournal.com. “Her mid-post game is huge. She can hit the three, but she’s relentless on the boards. She makes tough shots—that fadeaway is hard to guard. She just scores in so many ways.”
Jones added that their on-court chemistry has made Dallas’ frontcourt more dynamic.
“Maddy and I love playing together,” Jones emphasized to DallasHoopsJournal.com. “Before she came back, we said we’d be great together. We’re interchangeable but bring different things. It’s great to play with her and attack mismatches in different ways.”
Paige Bueckers echoed the sentiment, pointing to the versatility of Siegrist’s attack. She described how Siegrist can flow seamlessly between playing with her back to the basket, facing up in the mid-post, or spotting up on the perimeter, which forces defenders into uncomfortable decisions.
“Just her getting to her spots — posting up smaller defenders, shooting over the top, and being opportunistic,” Bueckers explained to DallasHoopsJournal.com. “She runs in transition and gets easy layups. She’s a workhorse, and the game comes to her. She takes full advantage of that.”
Bueckers added that Siegrist’s size and skill combination create consistent matchup problems.
“She’s a big wing, so a lot of times there’s a smaller defender on her,” Bueckers told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “For her to be able to take advantage of that is huge for us.”
Dallas Wings See Major Value
Head coach Chris Koclanes underscored the significance of Siegrist’s aggressiveness since returning from injury. He noted that her ability to attack mismatches has changed the dynamic of Dallas’ offense, giving the Wings a dependable option inside who can also stretch defenses from mid-range.
“I love that she’s being aggressive,” Koclanes told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “With our spacing, she finds mismatches whether she’s at the three or the four. She’s extremely efficient with that turnaround shot—it’s tough to guard. She gives us an inside presence and a scoring punch. Her energy and leadership are so valuable for our young group.”
Koclanes isn’t the only voice in the organization pointing to Siegrist’s importance. General manager Curt Miller also highlighted the forward’s scoring instincts, noting how much of a loss her midseason injury had been to the team’s plans.
“Maddy Siegrist’s injury was difficult because she has a knack for scoring,” Miller told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “She was poised to be in the Sixth Player of the Year discussion or help significantly in the starting lineup when injuries hit.”
For Miller, Siegrist’s ability to score in a variety of ways is exactly the type of skill Dallas wants to feature as it builds around its young core. Her recent string of career-best performances reinforces that belief, positioning her not only as a short-term scoring option but as a foundational piece for the franchise’s future.
What Comes Next
For all the frustration of Sunday’s loss, Siegrist’s steady emergence is a bright spot for a team that continues to adapt amid injuries after missing Ogunbowale and Li Yueru against Las Vegas. Her consistency has not only eased the scoring burden but given Dallas a reliable foundation to build around on the wing.
“It’s easy to say, ‘We’re young, they’re experienced,’ but we just have to be better all the way around,” Siegrist said. “Looking at a team like Vegas, you want to learn from them and see how they’re successful. As a group, we’re learning. We’re getting a lot of good shots offensively. Now it’s about taking more pride on the defensive end.”
The Wings (9–26) end their West Coast trip against the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday, where Siegrist’s continued growth will again be vital as Dallas searches for balance.
