DHJ Quick Take: 76ers Land Anfernee Simons on 2-Year Deal
Philadelphia has agreed to a 2-year, $12.3 million contract with free agent guard Anfernee Simons, fending off five other suitors in the process.
- What’s the deal? Simons agreed to a 2-year, $12.3 million contract with the 76ers.
- Who missed out? Denver, Golden State, Milwaukee, Indiana and Chicago all pursued Simons but lost out.
- Why does it matter? Philadelphia adds a proven perimeter scorer to pair with Tyrese Maxey in the backcourt.
- What’s next? The deal becomes official once the NBA’s free agency moratorium lifts and Philadelphia clears the necessary cap space.
The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to a two-year, $12.3 million contract with free agent guard Anfernee Simons, Dallas Hoops Journal has learned. Philadelphia beat out five other teams for his services, including the Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers, and Chicago Bulls.
Simons hit unrestricted free agency after his four-year, $100 million extension with the Trail Blazers ran its course. The deal caps a whirlwind year for the guard, who was traded twice in a single season before landing on the open market.
Portland selected Simons 24th overall out of IMG Academy in the 2018 draft, and he spent his first seven NBA seasons as a fixture in the Trail Blazers’ backcourt, developing into one of the league’s more reliable perimeter shooters along the way.
Anfernee Simons Split 2025-26 Between Boston and Chicago
Boston acquired Simons in July 2025 as part of a broader offseason reshuffling, only to move him again in February 2026, this time to Chicago, where he closed out the season as the Bulls’ starting shooting guard.
Across his stops with the Boston Celtics and Bulls, Simons averaged 14.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game on 44.0% shooting from the field and 38.5% from 3-point range in 24.9 minutes a night. Those numbers track closely with the efficiency he built his reputation on in Portland, where he twice topped 20 points a game as the Trail Blazers’ primary scoring option.
That combination of movement and steady production made him one of the more sought-after names available once free agency opened, evidenced by the six-team field that pursued him before Philadelphia closed the deal.
Philadelphia 76ers Continue a Busy Offseason
The Simons agreement is one piece of a larger roster overhaul in Philadelphia. The 76ers have also acquired Jaylen Brown from the Celtics via trade and have agreed to a four-year, $39 million contract with free-agent forward Dean Wade, giving the roster a markedly different look than it had a season ago.
For Philadelphia, the addition gives the 76ers another shot-maker to provide depth alongside Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe in a backcourt rotation that will lean on Simons’ movement shooting and shot creation off the bench.
