DHJ Quick Take
- Star Movement: The proposal sends Kawhi Leonard and Bradley Beal to the Golden State Warriors, while Jimmy Butler and the No. 1 overall pick head to the Los Angeles Clippers.
- Draft Capital Swap: The Washington Wizards move down to secure the No. 3 pick and a future first-rounder, while the Memphis Grizzlies reposition themselves with the No. 5 and No. 11 picks.
- Lottery Fallout: This massive, four-team scenario was constructed by Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale following the Wizards securing the top spot in the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery.
In the wake of the Washington Wizards winning the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery, a four-team blockbuster trade proposal sending Kawhi Leonard from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Golden State Warriors has been created.
Dan Favale of Bleacher Report created the following trade proposal between the Wizards, Warriors, Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies:
Washington Wizards Receive: No. 3, Indiana’s 2029 first-round pick (via LAC)
Golden State Warriors Receive: Kawhi Leonard, Bradley Beal
Los Angeles Clippers Receive: Jimmy Butler, No. 1
Memphis Grizzlies Receive: No. 5, No. 11
“Kawhi Leonard will always be an availability risk himself, but he’s working off a season in which he played 65 games, most of which came at a top-five-player level,” Favale wrote. “Although punting on a lottery pick for a soon-to-be 35-year-old on an expiring contract isn’t a no-brainer, this move is far safer than consolidating even more of their future firsts into another addition.”
Most insiders who cover the NBA believe the Clippers should and will trade Leonard this offseason since they are no longer a championship contender after trading James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers and Ivica Zubac to the Indiana Pacers in February. Leonard has one year left on his contract. He will make $50.3 million next season.
This trade proposal pairs Leonard with Warriors legends Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Golden State attempted to trade for Leonard at this year’s trade deadline and will pursue the forward again this summer, sources told Dallas Hoops Journal.
Leonard averaged 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game this season for the Clippers while shooting 50.5% from the field, 38.7% from beyond the arc and 89.2% from the free-throw line. The future Hall of Famer played in 65 games, the most games he’s appeared in since the 2023-24 season.
Both the Warriors and Clippers missed the playoffs this year, but Golden State remains in win-now mode since Curry is still an elite player. If the Warriors want to win a fifth championship in the Curry era, they need to get the sharpshooter a strong co-star and Leonard would certainly fit that bill.
A top-75 player of all time, Leonard has played for the San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors and Clippers. He holds career averages of 20.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
Leonard is a two-time champion, two-time Finals MVP, two-time Defensive Player of the Year and seven-time All-Star. He doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract and turns 35 in June.
