Boston Celtics Would ‘Love’ To Trade For Memphis Grizzlies’ Jaren Jackson Jr.
The Boston Celtics would “love” to trade for Memphis Grizzlies big man Jaren Jackson Jr., according to NBA insider Matt Moore.
Jackson Jr. is making $35 million this season.
“The Boston Celtics would love to add Jaren Jackson Jr. There is no team I’ve heard with more interest for Jackson,” Moore wrote.
The Grizzlies could trade Ja Morant soon, which would open the floodgates for a potential Jackson Jr. trade. JJJ is averaging 18.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game this season while shooting 47.9% from the field, 36.1% from beyond the arc and 76.3% from the free-throw line.
“You’re obviously not going to include Jaylen Brown, given that he’s played at an MVP level,” Moore wrote. “Jayson Tatum’s a no-go. There’s little way to justify trading Derrick White for Jaren. But if Boston loads up a pick-heavy trade package with some nice talent or tradeable contracts (Jordan Walsh, Hugo Gonzalez) for a Memphis team that would be starting over, does that get them there? Is anyone going to beat that offer for Jaren?”
Boston is 24-15, while Memphis is 17-22.
Morant is open to getting traded by the Grizzlies, sources told DallasHoopsJournal. Memphis is entertaining offers to trade Morant potentially. Multiple teams are pursuing Morant in trade talks and rival executives believe the Grizzlies would prioritize draft picks and young players in return.
Memphis is considering multiple paths forward amid the emergence of several promising young players. The Grizzlies also remain open to continuing with Morant as a focal part of their core with Jackson Jr.
A two-time All-Star, Jackson Jr. has career averages of 18.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. He won the 2022-23 Defensive Player of the Year Award.
