Minnesota Timberwolves Interested In Trading For Derrick White, Josh Giddey

DHJ Quick Take: Timberwolves Targeting White and Giddey

  • Aggressive Roster Pursuit: The Minnesota Timberwolves are actively exploring trade opportunities to acquire Boston Celtics guard Derrick White and Chicago Bulls forward Josh Giddey as they look to upgrade their supporting cast.
  • Contractual Landscape: Financing the additions would require taking on White’s $30.3 million salary and Giddey’s $25 million salary for next season, with neither player possessing a no-trade clause to block a potential move.
  • Building Around Edwards: Coming off a disappointing second-round exit to the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 playoffs, Minnesota’s front office is highly motivated to aggressively reshape and improve the roster surrounding franchise cornerstone Anthony Edwards.

Sam Amick of The Athletic reported the Timberwolves’ interest in White, while Darren Wolfson of KSTP-TV reported Minnesota’s interest in Giddey.

White will make $30.3 million next season, while Giddey will make $25 million. Neither player has a no-trade clause.

Minnesota Timberwolves Look to Build Around Anthony Edwards

The Timberwolves lost to the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the 2026 playoffs after making the Western Conference Finals in 2024 and 2025. Minnesota’s front office appears eager to make more improvements to the roster around Anthony Edwards.

For the Celtics this season, White averaged 16.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game while shooting 39.4% from the field, 32.7% from beyond the arc and 90.2% from the free-throw line. The 2024 NBA champion is one of the top two-way players in the league.

Meanwhile, Giddey averaged 17.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game for the Bulls. The talented playmaker shot 44.8% overall, 36.4% from 3 and 76.3% from the foul line and recorded 28 double-doubles and 13 triple-doubles.

The Celtics lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of this year’s playoffs in seven games despite taking a 3-1 series lead, while the Bulls missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.

Other Trade Targets Linked to the Minnesota Timberwolves

Along with White and Giddey, the Timberwolves have been linked to Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant and Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo in trade rumors.

It will be fascinating to see what moves Tim Connelly makes this offseason. He’s one of the most aggressive execs in the NBA.
