Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis is not currently on the Detroit Pistons’ trade radar, according to NBA reporter Hunter Patterson of The Athletic.

The Pistons, who have the best record in the Eastern Conference at 20-5, are prioritizing internal growth.

“Last Tuesday, reports suggested the Pistons were ‘suitors’ for oft-injured NBA champion Anthony Davis. But according to league sources, the Dallas Mavericks’ big man isn’t currently on the Pistons’ radar, with the team instead prioritizing internal growth,” Patterson wrote. “Detroit’s front office has been transparent on several occasions about letting the young talent on its roster fulfill its potential, and the organization has been inclined to let this team’s youth continue to jell before making moves that could disrupt chemistry.

“Those same league sources said the Pistons are planning to operate under the same logic as players signed in the offseason become trade eligible on Monday. Thanks to its 20-5 start and first-place position in the Eastern Conference standings, Detroit is expected to be opportunistic when weighing potential trade options but not aggressive in the market.”

The Pistons are an elite NBA team for the first time in years. They are eighth in the league in points per game, sixth in points per game allowed, ninth in offensive rating, second in defensive rating and fifth in net rating.

It would be foolish for the Pistons to make a blockbuster trade right now. Even though Davis is one of the top players in the NBA, he’s making a lot of money and can’t be counted on to stay healthy.

Davis is making $54.1 million this season. He’ll make $58.5 million next season and has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.

The Mavericks are expected to work with Davis’ camp as they decide whether to pursue an in-season trade, sources told DallasHoopsJournal. Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group is Davis’ agent.

Davis has appeared in just 20 games with the Mavericks since the blockbuster Luka Dončić trade last season. The big man is averaging 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.9 blocks per game in a Dallas uniform.

A Kentucky product, Davis has played in only 11 games this season because of a left calf injury. He’s averaging 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.

The few teams interested in trading for Davis hope he loses weight, sources said. Teams believe Davis needs to lose weight so he can be the mobile threat he usually is.

A top 75 player of all time, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks. He has career averages of 24.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
