DHJ Quick Take: Dallas Wings Carry Three Players on Injury Report for Saturday vs. Chicago Sky
The Dallas Wings listed Alanna Smith and Alysha Clark as questionable and ruled out Odyssey Sims ahead of Saturday’s home game against the Chicago Sky.
- Who’s listed? Alanna Smith (illness) and Alysha Clark (left leg) are questionable, while Odyssey Sims (left ankle) is out.
- How does it affect Dallas? Smith’s potential absence would thin a defense that is 9-6.
- Why does it matter? Dallas is trying to build on its May win over Chicago and handle a 4-10 Sky team at home as it stays in the playoff race.
- What’s next? The Wings host the Sky on Saturday, June 20 at 7 p.m. CT at College Park Center, airing nationally on CBS.
ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Wings carried three players on their game status report ahead of Saturday’s home meeting with the Chicago Sky, with forwards Alanna Smith and Alysha Clark listed as questionable and guard Odyssey Sims ruled out. Tip-off at College Park Center is set for 7 p.m. CT, and the game will air nationally on CBS.
Smith carries an illness designation, Clark is dealing with a left leg issue, and Sims is sidelined by a left ankle injury. Dallas enters the night at 9-6 after a 91-80 loss at the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday.
Alanna Smith Dealing With Illness
Smith’s availability will be one to monitor. She signed a three-year deal with Dallas in the offseason and arrived as the reigning WNBA co-Defensive Player of the Year, giving the Wings a frontcourt anchor on a roster built around guards Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale.
She’s averaging 3.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists through 14 games this season. She’s continued to play through recovery from a nasal fracture that she suffered against the Las Vegas Aces in preseason.
Dallas has leaned on Jessica Shepard and Awak Kuier in the frontcourt lately. However, the last meeting against Chicago saw Li Yueru play a key role off the bench to match up with Kamilla Cardoso.
Alysha Clark Questionable With Left Leg Issue
Clark, a 38-year-old veteran forward, is questionable with a left leg issue.
A three-time WNBA champion and the 2023 Sixth Player of the Year, Clark fills a depth role in the Dallas frontcourt and has worked into the rotation situationally rather than as a nightly fixture. She has been most impactful for the Wings through her veteran leadership.
Odyssey Sims Ruled Out With Ankle Injury
Sims is the lone player ruled out, sidelined by a left ankle injury for what will be a sixth consecutive game. The veteran guard signed with Dallas before the season to provide backcourt depth and has appeared in 10 games, averaging 6.0 points, 0.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.
Her absence comes as the Wings have leaned on recent addition Sug Sutton, who scored 9 points on 3-of-4 shooting, including 2-of-2 from 3-point range, in her second game in a Dallas uniform at Golden State.
What It Means Against Chicago
Dallas beat the Sky 99-89 in Chicago on May 20, its first regular-season win over Chicago since 2024 and its first road win at Wintrust Arena since 2022.
The Wings should be favored at home regardless of the report, but Smith’s status in particular will shape how Fernandez manages his rotation.
The Wings and Sky tip off at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday at College Park Center, with national coverage on CBS.
