Kyrie Irving is staying with the Dallas Mavericks on a new long-term deal. He intends to decline his $43 million player option for the 2025-26 season and intends to sign a new three-year, $119 million contract with the Mavericks, a source confirmed to DallasHoopsJournal.com. The deal includes a final-year player option for the 2027-28 season.
The move reinforces what league insiders have expected in conversations with DallasHoopsJournal.com for months — that Irving and the Mavericks remain committed to each other for the long haul. The new deal will enable Irving to align his contract with that of Anthony Davis, who also holds a player option for the 2027-28 season.
Irving, 33, is currently recovering from a torn ACL sustained in March. Despite the injury, he maintained a consistent presence around the team late in the season and has spoken optimistically about the franchise’s future.
“It’s an exciting time to be a Dallas Maverick. It’s an exciting time to be a Dallas Maverick fan,” Irving said during an NBA TV interview after the team won the lottery. “Shout out to MFFL, all the supporters that have been rocking with us. Getting this number one pick, we had a 1.8% chance. I loved it. I enjoyed seeing all of the excitement, not only from the city but from our executive leadership, from our ownership group, from my teammates.”
Irving averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists over 50 games last season. He shot 47.3% from the field, 40.1% from 3-point range, and 91.6% from the free throw line. While his return-to-play timeline remains undetermined, Dallas will be eager for him to be back in the lineup when he can play.
“This is one of those times in not only my career but in the legacy play of being a Dallas Maverick, where we have a chance to do something special,” Irving said. “It’s been an exciting journey thus far.”
With Irving and Davis under contract, and the No. 1 overall pick in hand, the Mavericks will look to solidify their roster and build toward title contention over the next several seasons.
