Los Angeles Lakers Want To Trade For Defensive Wing, New Orleans Pelicans’ Herbert Jones Atop Their Wish List

According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Los Angeles Lakers want to trade for a defensive wing and New Orleans Pelicans forward Herbert Jones is atop their wish list.
“The Los Angeles Lakers are monitoring the trade market for a defensive wing upgrade, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote. “Among the 3-and-D wing upgrades on their wish list is New Orleans Pelicans forward Herb Jones, league sources say.”
The Lakers are 18-7. They are in third place in the Western Conference standings.
Meanwhile, the Pelicans are only 5-22. They have the worst record in the West.
Jones, 27, has appeared in 19 games for New Orleans this season. The lefty is averaging 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 39.5% from the field, 33.8% from beyond the arc and 80.0% from the free-throw line.
The Pelicans are not interested in trading Jones, sources told DallasHoopsJournal, but if the Lakers offer them a substantial package for Jones, New Orleans could reconsider its stance.
Jones was the 35th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He holds career averages of 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.7 blocks per game. The two-way wing made the 2023-24 All-Defensive First Team.
The Lakers are 17th in the NBA in points per game allowed and 20th in defensive rating.
To compete for the 2026 championship, Los Angeles needs to upgrade its defensive personnel.
