NBA legend LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers won’t play in the 2028 Olympics, which will be in Los Angeles. Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry is likely out too.

“You already know my answer,” LeBron James said on the Mind the Game podcast. “I will be watching it.”

“God willing, I still have the choice and physical option where I could impact the team,” Stephen Curry said. “Never say never, but I highly doubt it. Highly doubt it.”

James will be 43 during the 2028 Olympics, while Curry will be 40.

The leading scorer in NBA history, James has competed in four Olympics, winning bronze in 2004 and gold medals in 2008, 2012 and 2024.

Meanwhile, Curry made his Olympic debut in the 2024 games, helping Team USA win the gold medal.

“We can’t top what we just did,” LeBron James said. “How we gonna top those last two games?”

Team USA had an incredible comeback win against Serbia to advance to the gold medal game. James and Curry then beat France to win the gold medal.

James is the oldest active player in the NBA. He turns 41 in December and has been in the league since 2003. The forward becomes an unrestricted free agent next offseason for the first time since 2018.

Arguably the greatest player in NBA history, James could retire after this season. He’s a four-time MVP, a four-time champion and a four-time Finals MVP. The Akron native has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers (twice), Miami Heat and Lakers.

James, who grew up idolizing Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan, is the only player to rank top five all-time in points and assists, the only player to win three Finals MVPs with three teams, the only player with 40,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 10,000 career assists and the only player to score 50,000 points combining the regular season and playoffs.

Curry, the greatest shooter of all time, has spent his entire career with the Warriors. He’s a four-time champion, a two-time MVP and a one-time Finals MVP.
