Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to be sidelined for approximately two to four weeks because of a right calf strain, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN.
Antetokounmpo suffered a non-contact injury on Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons at home.
The injury occurred hours after Charania reported that Antetokounmpo and his agent have started conversations with the Bucks about the future. Antetokounmpo guided Milwaukee to the 2021 championship against the Phoenix Suns. Since then, the franchise has won only one playoff series.
If Antetokounmpo misses four weeks, he would be at risk of not being eligible for All-NBA.
A future Hall of Famer, Antetokounmpo is making $54.1 million this season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season. The superstar power forward doesn’t have a no-trade clause.
The Bucks are only 10-13. They are in 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Antetokounmpo, 30, is averaging 28.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game this season while shooting 63.9% from the field and 63.5% from the free-throw line. The Bucks have lost in the first round of the playoffs three years in a row.
One of the best players in NBA history, Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP, one-time Finals MVP, one-time Defensive Player of the Year and nine-time All-Star. He holds career averages of 24.0 points, 9.9 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.
The New York Knicks and Bucks discussed an Antetokounmpo trade before the season. If Antetokounmpo requests a trade from Milwaukee, the NBA legend will be pursued by a bevy of teams.
