An NBA trade idea sending Anthony Davis from the Dallas Mavericks to the Atlanta Hawks has been created.

NBA writer Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Mavericks and Hawks:

Atlanta Hawks get: Anthony Davis

Dallas Mavericks get: Kristaps Porziņģis, Asa Newell, Luke Kennard and 2027 first-round pick (top-4 protected, via NOP or MIL)

The Hawks are expected to be a trade suitor for Davis, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN. Porziņģis played for the Mavericks before and is on an expiring contract.

The Hawks are 15-12, while the Mavericks are 10-16.

“Maybe the market will prove different, but this feels about as good as Dallas can do. The first-round pick should be a pretty good one, and Newell could be a fun, long-term frontcourt fit with Cooper Flagg and Dereck Lively II, especially if his perimeter shooting perks up,” Buckley wrote. “Ideally, Dallas would reroute at least one of the incoming vets elsewhere for additional assets, but if not, both are at least on expiring salaries totaling more than $41 million.

“Davis would immediately make the Hawks even more disruptive on defense while giving them a clear half-court identity on offense as part of what would be a potent pick-and-roll game with him and Trae Young. His arrival alone might help Atlanta make the jump to top-10 efficiency ratings on both ends, which history regards as a requirement for contention.”

Davis is making $54.1 million this season. He’ll make $58.5 million next season and has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.

The Mavericks are expected to work with Davis’ camp as they decide whether to pursue an in-season trade, sources told DallasHoopsJournal. Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group is Davis’ agent.

Davis has appeared in only 20 games with the Mavericks since the blockbuster Luka Dončić trade last season. The big man is averaging 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.9 blocks per game in a Dallas uniform.

A Kentucky product, Davis has played in just 11 games this season because of a left calf injury. He’s averaging 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.

The few teams interested in trading for Davis hope he loses weight, sources said. Teams believe Davis needs to lose weight so he can be the mobile threat he usually is.

A top 75 player of all time, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks. He has career averages of 24.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
