Rich Paul Has Sought Clarity Whether Dallas Mavericks Plan To Trade Anthony Davis Or Work Out Extension

According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group has sought clarity on whether the Dallas Mavericks plan to trade Anthony Davis or work out an extension.

Davis is eligible for a four-year, $275 million maximum extension in August. The Chicago native is making $54.1 million this season. He’ll make $58.5 million next season and has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.

“After being the top player acquired in the Luka Dončić trade from the Los Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks will have to figure out the future of Anthony Davis and the franchise’s long-term direction,” Scotto wrote. “The 10-time All-Star turns 33 in March and will be eligible for up to a four-year, $275 million maximum extension in August. Currently, Davis is owed $54.13 million this season, $58.46 million for the 2026-27 season, and has a $62.79 million player option for the 2027-28 season on his contract.

“Therefore, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, who represents Davis, has sought clarity on whether the franchise plans to trade Davis before the deadline in a rebuilding effort around prized rookie Cooper Flagg, or if they plan on working out an extension and competing at a high level.”

A future Hall of Famer, Davis has appeared in only 20 games with the Mavericks since the blockbuster Dončić trade last season. The big man is averaging 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.9 blocks per game in a Dallas uniform.

Davis has been linked to the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors in trade rumors.

A Kentucky product, Davis has played in just 11 games this season because of a left calf injury. He’s averaging 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.

Teams interested in trading for Davis hope he loses weight, sources told DallasHoopsJournal. Teams think Davis needs to lose weight so he can be the mobile threat he usually is.

A top 75 player of all time, Davis has career averages of 24.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
