Sources: Sacramento Kings Emerge as Key Trade Suitor for Jonathan Kuminga

The Sacramento Kings have emerged as a suitor to watch for Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, but a deal between the Pacific Division rivals is not considered imminent, league sources told DallasHoopsJournal.com.

Golden State extended a $7.9 million qualifying offer to Kuminga at the start of free agency, making him a restricted free agent and retaining the right to match any offer he receives. Sources said the Warriors are open to discussing a potential sign-and-trade but are seeking a package that includes a promising young player and a future first-round pick.

According to sources, Sacramento recently floated an offer built around rookie guard Devin Carter, veteran forward Dario Šarić, and two second-round picks. Golden State declined, viewing the proposal as a buy-low attempt rather than fair value for one of its top young talents.

Kuminga, 22, was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and is coming off his most productive season. He averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 steals while shooting 45.4% from the field in 47 games. He started 32 times and was often tasked with defending top wings and forwards.

In addition to the Kings, the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, and Brooklyn Nets have also expressed interest in Kuminga. However, none are believed to be engaged in advanced discussions.

Carter, the No. 13 overall pick in this year’s draft out of Providence, recently signed his rookie contract with Sacramento. Šarić spent last season with the Denver Nuggets and was traded to the Kings.

The Warriors are expected to continue exploring ways to retool around Stephen Curry while maintaining future flexibility. Golden State’s front office values Kuminga’s upside and athleticism but weighs all options as it evaluates its next phase.

For now, talks between the Warriors and Kings remain inactive. Unless a more compelling offer surfaces, Kuminga is expected to stay with Golden State heading into next season.
