The 2025 WNBA trade deadline has passed. Satou Sabally didn’t get traded by the Phoenix Mercury despite being in trade rumors. One WNBA writer believes the Indiana Fever should have traded for the three-time All-Star to give Caitlin Clark another offensive weapon.

Lee Escobedo of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Mercury and Fever:

Indiana Fever receives: Satou Sabally

Phoenix Mercury receives: Natasha Howard, future first-round pick (from Fever)

Sabally is averaging 17.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists this season while shooting 39.6% from the field, 28.6% from beyond the arc and 81.1% from the free-throw line. She has two double-doubles in her first year with the Mercury, who acquired her from the Dallas Wings.

“At 6’4″, Sabally blends size, handles, perimeter shooting, rebounding and switch‑mobility,” Escobedo wrote. “Sounds like the very type of forward you pair with Caitlin Clark—when she returns from her groin injury—against switch-heavy playoff defenses.

“Sabally’s versatility alleviates pressure on Aliyah Boston and mitigates spacing issues when defenses sag off Clark to deter her drives. Her elite feel lets her oscillate between post-ups and secondary pick‑and‑pop scoring.”

The Fever are 17-13 on the season. They are fourth in the WNBA in points per game, eighth in points per game allowed, fourth in offensive rating, seventh in defensive rating and fourth in net rating.

Clark hasn’t played since July 15 due to a right groin injury. She’s only appeared in 13 games this season for the Fever, averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.8 assists while shooting 36.7% from the field, 27.9% from beyond the arc and 82.0% from the free-throw line.

It’s unknown when Clark will play again.

“It’s day-to-day right now,” Fever head coach Stephanie White said. “We’re really just putting no timetable on it. Going through the rehab process and then we want to reintegrate her from a strength and conditioning standpoint and then get her back to basketball activities.”

Sabally will finish the season with the Mercury, who are 18-11. It would have been fun to watch her play with Clark, but Sabally is having fun in Phoenix and thriving with a winning team.
