Kawhi Leonard Trade Proposals: Clippers Star Goes To Warriors, Heat, Pistons

DHJ Quick Take: Kawhi Leonard Trade Packages

  • Golden State Framework: In a proposed swap with the Warriors, the Clippers would acquire Jimmy Butler, the No. 11 overall pick and a 2031 first-round pick swap in exchange for Kawhi Leonard.
  • Miami Framework: A multi-player deal with the Heat would send Leonard and Derrick Jones Jr. to Miami, with the Clippers receiving a package centered on youth and shooting in Tyler Herro, Andrew Wiggins and Jaime Jaquez Jr.
  • Detroit Framework: A deal with the Pistons would send Leonard to Detroit, netting the Clippers a haul consisting of Duncan Robinson, Isaiah Stewart, Caris LeVert, Ron Holland and a 2031 first-round pick.

Most insiders who cover the NBA believe the Los Angeles Clippers should and will trade Kawhi Leonard this offseason since they are no longer a championship contender after trading James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers and Ivica Zubac to the Indiana Pacers in February.

Leonard has one year left on his contract. He will make $50.3 million next season.

NBA writer Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report recently created three Leonard trade proposals. Let’s take a look at them.

Kawhi Goes To Golden State Warriors

Los Angeles Clippers Receive: Jimmy Butler, No. 11 pick and a 2031 first-round pick swap

Golden State Warriors Receive: Kawhi Leonard

This trade proposal pairs Leonard with Warriors legends Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Golden State attempted to trade for Leonard at this year’s trade deadline and will pursue the forward again this summer, sources told Dallas Hoops Journal.

Both the Warriors and Clippers missed the playoffs this year, but Golden State remains in win-now mode since Curry is still an elite player. If the Warriors want to win a fifth championship in the Curry era, they need to get the sharpshooter a strong co-star and Leonard would certainly fit that bill.

Miami Heat Get Kawhi

Los Angeles Clippers Receive: Tyler Herro, Andrew Wiggins and Jaime Jaquez Jr.

Miami Heat Receive: Kawhi Leonard and Derrick Jones Jr.

This trade proposal pairs Leonard with Heat All-Star Bam Adebayo. On paper, Leonard and Adebayo look like a dangerous “Big 2.”

Miami hasn’t won a championship since 2013. The franchise went to the NBA Finals in 2020 and 2023 with Adebayo and Butler leading the way, but the Heat lost both times.

Heat president Pat Riley told reporters at his end-of-the-season press conference that he’s tired of losing. He’s expected to chase Leonard this summer.

Detroit Pistons Acquire Kawhi

Los Angeles Clippers Receive: Duncan Robinson, Isaiah Stewart, Caris LeVert, Ron Holland and a 2031 first-round pick

Detroit Pistons Receive: Kawhi Leonard

This NBA trade proposal pairs Leonard with Pistons All-Stars Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren.

Detroit also keeps rising star Ausar Thompson.

Leonard averaged 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game this season for the Clippers while shooting 50.5% from the field, 38.7% from beyond the arc and 89.2% from the free-throw line. The future Hall of Famer played in 65 games, the most games he’s appeared in since the 2023-24 season.

A top-75 player of all time, Leonard has played for the San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors and Clippers. He holds career averages of 20.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

Leonard is a two-time champion, two-time Finals MVP, two-time Defensive Player of the Year and seven-time All-Star. He doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.
